Under PAYD, Sailors and Royal Marines benefit from receiving cash to purchase their core meals, rather than being automatically charged for it, therefore giving them the flexibility of purchasing food when and where they want it. Under the old system all Sailors and Royal Marines were charged £3.66 every day for their food and, alongside all the other exciting food options now available, Sodexho still provide three core meals a day for the same price:
. Breakfast £0.99
. Lunch £1.17
. Dinner £1.50
Over 3500 military and civilian personnel at RNAS Yeovilton are benefiting from the new high-street style facilities that have been introduced as part of PAYD.
Peter Hayward, Fleet Contacts Officer, Royal Navy commented: “PAYD has just launched at Yeovilton and there has already been a very favourable reaction from all the ranks to both the scheme itself and to the modernised site. The refurbished new style restaurant, café and bar run by Sodexho are always busy and Sailors and Royal Marines are clearly enjoying the fact that they can eat quality food where and when they want.”
Mike Thomas, Director Navy Contracts, at Sodexho Defence Services said: “PAYD is a key part of our ongoing commitment to giving military personnel a range of nutritious and delicious meal options to reflect the choices they can find in the high street. The launch of PAYD at RNAS Yeovilton is proving a great success - our customers have been complimenting the improved quality and choice and they're delighted to be getting excellent value for money.”
Other Navy sites have been involved in the trial of PAYD, along with both Army and RAF sites, however RNAS Yeovilton is the first Navy unit to officially launch the service. All Navy sites catered by Sodexho are set to benefit from the flexibility of PAYD by the end of 2008.
Sodexho Defence Services currently manages over 60 defence contracts of all types in the UK, providing a complete range of support services.
RNAS Yeovilton operates over 100 aircraft in four different categories and is manned by around 1675 service and 2000 civilian personnel including MoD employees and permanent contractors. Ends
