Sodexho scores well at North Devon hospital

The third national survey of adult inpatients by the Healthcare Commission has been carried out among patients who stayed in hospital in 2005. Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has scored in the top 20% of NHS hospitals in eight out of nine categories.

An area which the score had improved includes the cleanliness of ward and bathrooms, where the survey awarded the hospital a 'very clean' score. Sodexho, which provides cleaning at the hospital, works closely with the Trust staff to try and provide the highest standards of cleanliness possible.

Says Iain Anderson, managing director for Sodexho Healthcare: "With hospital cleanliness rating high on the priority of the public and the regular reporting in the media about hospital acquired infections, this is particularly good news for the Trust and Sodexho. With have a strong relationship with the Trust and believe that by working together we can ensure the hospital is run to the highest standard."

The North Devon District Hospital earned particular high scores for the quality of care delivered by its nursing staff.
The nine categories surveyed were Admission (to hospital); the Hospital and Ward; Doctors; Nurses; care and treatment; pain (control) operations and procedures; discharge (from hospital) and finally an overall rating.
